Hampton Court Palace
Couples getting married at Hampton Court Palace will follow in the footsteps of some of England’s most powerful monarchs, who have held lavish royal parties and events here over the last five centuries. The timeless majesty of the palace and grounds provides a spectacular setting for a wedding celebration at any time of year, with immaculate gardens for summer and grand historical interiors for the winter months.
One of our favourite ways to use the venue is to have the civil ceremony within our Garden Room, which offers clients the choice of an outdoor ceremony under our beautiful pergola, or within the airy and romantic Garden Room itself. Guests can then enjoy tours of the palace, getting an insight into the history of the venue whilst we accompany the newlyweds around our 65 acres of formal gardens as the backdrop to their wedding photography and capture some memories of their special day.
Drinks are then served within the Orangery, where guests can explore the spectacular Privy Garden; a restoration of William III’s Baroque garden of 1702. Once dinner is announced the wedding party can wander through the State Apartments to arrive at the Great Hall of Henry VIII. Sitting at the very heart of the Tudor Palace, this space is our favourite venue in which to host weddings with an incredible dinner atmosphere under the hammerbeam ceiling.
Finally, guests can let their hair down and dance the night away in the Undercroft – formally known as Henry VIII’s beer cellar! Our events team stay with our couples from start to finish. Right from the initial booking, we work with our couples throughout the planning process and take great delight in being there on the day to make sure every detail is perfect for them.
We love the flexibility that the palace has to offer; with such a range of spaces available we have the luxury of putting bespoke proposals together to best deliver each wedding couple’s dream day. For example, we were able to arrange for one couple’s wedding car to come into the palace courtyards so that their elderly family members could see them drive off, resulting in a fairy-tale image of the car in the beautifully lit cobbled courtyard at night! All couples have the opportunity to offer wedding guests tickets into the palace in order for them to take advantage of the setting and explore the palace either before the ceremony or during the reception.
Quite often guests will arrive before the wedding to have a look around the palace before the ceremony starts – this also means they are here on-site and won’t be late for those all-important vows! Wedding photography is also reserved exclusively for couples hiring the palace for their special day, capturing their own moment in the palace’s history. With income from events being reinvested into Historic Royal Palaces’ charitable cause, each wedding helps to ensure that this remarkable venue remains well maintained and open for everyone to enjoy!
