The Middle Temple

One of the four ancient Inns of Court, Middle Temple has been at the heart of the legal system since the sixteenth century. Situated on the banks of the Thames, moments away from the busy central London streets, the secluded grounds create an oasis of peace and calm. Stunning architecture and ancient artefacts give this unique venue a wonderful sense of history and a dignified, stately atmosphere. The majestic elegance and secluded beauty of Middle Temple creates the perfect setting for a fairy tale wedding, a unique space that leaves guests awe-struck and with lasting memories of a day of wonderment.

From the towering splendour of the Hall to the tranquillity of the gardens, wedding parties will walk in the footsteps of some of the greatest names in history – Shakespeare, Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Francis Drake, Charles Dickens, amongst others – and dine at the 29-ft High Table that was a gift to the Inn from Elizabeth I, made from a single oak from Windsor Forest that was floated down the Thames to the doors of Middle Temple. Surviving the Great Fire and two World Wars, the table has never left the building and has been dined at by every monarch since Elizabeth I herself. The very first performance of Twelfth Night was played in the Hall in 1602 with Shakespeare and the Virgin Queen in attendance.

The Inn is licensed to hold ceremonies in all of its rooms including the Prince’s Room and Elizabethan Hall. The venue can be hired exclusively, or The Hall, garden and Bench Apartments can be hired individually.
